FIELD HOCKEY OVERTIME PROCEDURES FOR THE PLAYOFFS

If the score is tied at the end of regulation, a full 10 minute 7 on 7 overtime will be played.  If a player received a yellow card at the end of the game and the penalty time has not expired, she may not play in the overtime until the time has expired and the team must play short.  At the end of the penalty time, any player may come in to make it 7.  If a player received a red card during the game, or during any of the overtimes, she may not play and the team will play short the entire overtime period(s).

The time between the regulation game and the overtime is not to exceed 5 minutes.  The time between all other overtimes will be 2 minutes.  Teams will remain on the same side of the field.  Home team calls the flip for the first overtime, and then alternate the rest of the overtimes.

If after the first overtime, the game is still tied, a sudden victory 10 minute 7 on 7 overtime is played.  If the game is still tied after the second overtime, another sudden victory 10 minute 7 on 7 overtime is played.

If, after these three overtimes, the game is still tied, a sudden victory 10 minute 7 on 7 overtime is played.  However, after 3 minutes of play, each team must remove one player (not the goalie).  The official timer will notify the coaches when 2 minutes 45 seconds have elapsed (7:15) that in 15 seconds a player must leave.  They are to leave through the substitution area.  The official timer will notify the coaches when 5 minutes and 45 seconds have elapsed (4:15) that another player must leave.  There must be a goalie at all times, and the lowest we will go is 5 on 5.  On a corner, there will be 3 defenders and the goalie.  If a player delays in getting off the field, or leaves the field inappropriately, the official timer will notify the head official and a misconduct foul will be assessed, resulting in the loss of the ball.  Coaches need to notify players of who is coming out so that the removal is done quickly and efficiently.  The game will continue under this format until a winner is determined.

All play-off games must be completed.  If a game is suspended due to darkness, weather, etc., the game is restarted at the point of suspension.  If the first half is not completed, the game does not count and will be restarted from the beginning.
